Depending upon which source you check, RSS stands for Rich Site Summary, or Really Simple Syndication. Either way, it's an XML specification initially developed by Netscape for efficiently publishing news and information.
At its simplest, RSS is like your own private newspaper. Every time you open your RSS reader, it checks to see if there have been updates to any of the feeds you subscribe to. If so, it downloads them to your computer. With RSS, you don't have to navigate to numerous Websites to get the information you want; instead, the information comes to you.
