Crossing the Hudson Made Easy: How to Get to Hoboken

Best Overall: PATH Train
  • Why: PATH avoids Lincoln/Holland Tunnel traffic, runs every few minutes during peak hours, and takes ~10–15 minutes from Manhattan to Hoboken.
  • Cost: $2.75 per ride.
  • Reliability: High—less affected by road congestion.
  • Downside: Limited to Lower Manhattan and Midtown (33rd St line), so if your destination is near Port Authority, you’ll need extra subway travel

Bus (NJ Transit #126)
  • Why: Direct to Port Authority (great for Midtown destinations).
  • Travel Time: 20–40 minutes, but can spike to 60+ minutes in heavy Lincoln Tunnel traffic.
  • Cost: About $3.50.
  • Downside: Highly variable during rush hour; delays are common.

Car
  • Why: Flexible if you need luggage or multiple stops.
  • Travel Time: 15–40 minutes, but can exceed 60 minutes in peak traffic.
  • Cost: Tolls (~$17) + parking (limited and expensive).
  • Downside: Worst option during rush hour due to tunnel congestion and scarce parking.
