Hoboken IT Firm Honored Yet Again; Plus, Reasons To Get Off The Couch This Weekend

Hoboken IT firm eMazzanti Technologies was just named a finalist in NY Enterprise Report magazine’s Small Business Awards competition in the customer service category, an honor that distinguishes it from among several hundred area companies that the publication considered.

This is hardly the first time this Hoboken IT firm has been recognized; the magazine also named them a finalist last year. Here in Hoboken former Mayor David Roberts declared August 30, 2005 “eMazzanti Technologies Day.” Current Newark Mayor Cory Booker did something similar within his city, and last year former Governor Jon Corzine gave the company special praise, saying, “It is noteworthy that eMazzanti Technologies has been recognized across the nation as one of the preeminent and burgeoning technological firms.”

At the invitation of eMazzanti CEO Carl Mazzanti, About Town enjoyed the chance to tour its office on Grand Street.

The first thing we thought when taking a glance at all the high tech equipment in use and on display is, “we just walked into the 22nd century.”

Each of the eMazzanti employees navigates between four large flat panel computer screens, each screen providing different content for enhanced productivity. Carl Mazzanti himself works on an impressive eight screens arrangement, piled two high across four rows.

The company loves giving tours to potential clients, and they feature a digital projection screen that allows for presentations and connects wirelessly to laptops. Along different walls are mounted computer monitors featuring up-to-the-minute details of the company’s daily, weekly, monthly and yearly performance, software gadgets which eMazzanti later offers to clients. Carl Mazzanti also showed us how he and his team connected their work hard drives, video game consoles and a huge music database of 20,000 songs to a central station. Employees can even synchronize their home computers to pull from the business database.

“The marriage between technology and the home is getting tighter,” Mazzanti explained.

The company claims the ability to assist other businesses perform more efficiently as one of its core services. That could entail supplying hardware and software, installing security firewalls, and backing up information.

“What we do best is help them with their IT needs,” Mazzanti elaborated, “so that they can then concentrate on what they do best.”

As an example Mazzanti cited a local real estate firm that just acquired scanning equipment and software through his company.

“Businesses know office space is expensive,” he said. “In this case they had years of paperwork taking up room, and now they’ll be able to store it all digitally and use their space more efficiently.”

Efficiency within is also one of eMazzanti’s goals. The company has been honored by environmentally-focused magazines, and has cut down on wasteful energy expenditures.

“We’re 40 percent more efficient here than we were in our last building,” Mazzanti mentioned.

The Hoboken IT firm also specializes in helping businesses digitally connect offices that are geographically far apart. While it is based in Hoboken, eMazzanti is a thriving hub connected to global commerce, counting dozens of clients in cities all over Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. Many of those businesses are also global themselves.

“We make them feel like they’re all in one place, even though they’re actually miles apart,’ Mazzanti explained.

But for Mazzanti and many of his employees, Hoboken is still home. Mazzanti lives in the city and said he enjoys being able to take nice walks to work. He’s also made it a point to continue servicing local clients, including at one time Hoboken’s most famous, Carlo’s Bakery.

“A long time ago we worked on the website for the Cake Boss,” Mazzanti recalled. “It was just some local outreach. We ended up teaching his mother how to use a computer. Who knew that years later they’d all be television stars.”

Mazzanti and his company are quickly becoming stars in their own right within the IT universe. But though they have a global reach, their roots are still here.

“We’re in Hoboken, and we own this office property,” Mazzanti assured. “We’re not going anywhere.”
