No matter how Hurricane Irene affected your business, now is a smart time to prepare and secure your electronics. The first step, if a disaster is eminent, is to follow the helpful tips below.

Tip #1: Protect your backup data
If you have an external HD in the USB dock attached to the backup unit it is recommended that you take the hard drive home with you today or store it in a safe location. All you need to do is unplug it and take it with you. Handle it with care, as the hard drive inside is fragile and will not react well to being dropped or excessively jarred.
Tip #2: Unplug all electric equipment that can be shut down
Power outages during a hurricane or other natural disaster will inevitably last longer than any battery backup can secure your equipment, as utility crews will not even be dispatched for safety reasons until the storm passes. Therefore it is futile to try to keep any non-critical equipment plugged in.
